Hey hey, this is deffyme and today I took over Dark Heart Recs to interview the one and only Greencyde – the man behind the scenes. He is the label founder and a very very valuable artist in our scene.

Hey Brett, I know this is a bit random and unexpected, but that’s what the random questions format is about! šŸ˜‰

Let’s just get started haha!

1. How did you come up with the idea of founding a label?

Iā€™ve always been in to music. I have no idea why, music has just been the only thing I have ever had a real proper interest in. I listen to it all day, every day, and couldnā€™t think of life without it. I started playing in bands years ago as I wanted to feel closer to the music, be a part of it. The idea for the label has always been there.

I remember when I was a kid dreaming of owning a recording studio. The label is another way to show people great music, like when anyone shares a video or track on Facebook. And every track that drops on the label makes me feel closer to it.

2. How much work do you put in this project (Dark Heart / DarkPlay)

A lot, probably more time than I should considering I have a family too, and I work Monday through to Saturdays most weeks. The labels are getting a lot busier too now, so I usually come home and put contracts together, master the music, find the artwork and submit the tracks to the distributors, but I feel every second is worth it. It feels like something I need to do in my heart.

3. What is the most disgusting thing you ever experienced.

I used to be an undertaker and in another job I sold sex toys so Iā€™ve seen quite a few things in my life.

4. What is it like to be Santa Claus?

Itā€™s ok but Iā€™m quite busy in December.Ā  The beard has gone now but it grows fast towards the end of the year.

5. What was the biggest disappointment you had in your music career?

Not many disappointments. Name drop time, Iā€™ve supported lots of big Punk bands like The Exploited and Discharge, had an album produced by Brian James of the Damned, and also found my way on to compilation albums with most of Motorhead, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Mission of Burma, but canā€™t think of any disappointments. Even the gigs I spent all day travelling to get to and didnā€™t play very well are now a part of my history.

6. Name 5 Groceries you really can’t stand.

Carrots, carrots, carrots, carrots, and carrots.

7. If you could join any band or music project and you had the skills to do whatever you like, which one would it be?

Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Massive Attack, Snuff.Ā  Damn, you said one. Bad Beastie Boys Attack Snuff.

8. Cats or Dogs?

Dogs. Cats are evil. I was once at a friends house as they were having a party, and I made the mistake of stroking their catā€™s belly. It instantly stuck every single claw into my hand. I remember sitting there almost in tears trying my best to not let my friends see what was happening in embarrassment as I picked every claw out one by one. I learnt two things that day, 1. Never rub a cats belly, and 2. Cats are bastards.

9. Name one person that died before you were born but you would have loved to have met.

My grandad, he died less than a month before I was born. If it was a famous person there are so many Iā€™d loved to have met.Ā  Malcolm X, Horatio Spafford, Claude Debussy with his piano. Clair de Lune hits the very heart of my soul. Makes me feel absolute beauty when I hear it. Itā€™s like every single note is pure perfection. If Claude is unavailable then Erik Sate please. šŸ™‚

10. What are your top 5 movies?

The Fog, Evil Dead, Insidious, The Exorcist, The Shining. Damn, only 5! I have so many in my top 5! šŸ˜€

11. Do you drink enough water throughout the day?

No, I donā€™t drink anywhere near enough. Just coffee, and Dr Peppers. No alcohol at all. It always makes me laugh when people say ā€œOh, you donā€™t drink?ā€ Well, yeah, I do but not alcohol. If I didnā€™t drink Iā€™d have discovered some really amazing way of surviving without liquids.

12. What was one release by your favourite artist(s) that disappointed you?

Massive Attacks ā€˜Heligolandā€™ album, although it has got the track ā€˜Girl I Love youā€™ on it which is a gem. But overall the album disappointed me. But I canā€™t really hold that against them. I always think that when an artist or band have given you so much you canā€™t really hold a track or album you donā€™t like against them.

13. Would you quit making and listening to music if that guaranteed you to live forever?

No, music is running through me. And I canā€™t imagine it not being there. Plus living forever sounds very tiring.

14. If you’re 555 then I’mā€¦?

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

I wish I wrote that, but I didnā€™t, lol. It’s a part of Max Ehrmanns Desiderata which is a way I pretty much like to live my life.

15. Here is some space to greet some people:

Hello mateyā€™s!

Haha thanks for the interview!
And thanks for letting me infiltrate Dark Heart!

Thank you Deffyyou! šŸ–¤
